Linda Friedlin, Director

Linda Friedlin, First School Director

Welcome from the Director

To Our Prospective Families,

Hello.

My name is Linda Friedlin, and I feel very fortunate as the director to partner with you as your children begin their first school experiences. I am supported in this endeavor by a wonderful team of early childhood professionals and administrators who work together to give our First Schoolers a solid foundation to reach their full potential.

First School is a non-profit, play-based preschool and child development center for children ages 2 to 6 years. Here we focus on the whole child, with emphasis on social and emotional learning, cognitive development, and fine and gross motor skills. Our recently refurbished and updated classroom is divided into categories such as dramatic play, STEM, music, sensory and provocation area as well as reading and quiet areas to promote physical development, cognitive skills and language literacy in a nurturing and positive way.

We believe a small group of children with caring teachers creates an environment where children are free to ask questions and explore activities that interest them and is ideal preparation for kindergarten and beyond. We celebrate cultural diversity, inclusion, and affirmation through weekly curricular themes allowing an in-depth exploration of many topics, and cultural experiences, and practicing empathy and social skills that prepare students to enter kindergarten with confidence.

I would like the First School community to be a place you feel excited to be a part of. We look forward to working with you for the benefit of your child's success. Please feel free to reach out to me if I may be of service in any way.

Sincerely,

Linda Friedlin

First School Director

Philosophy

First School is a non-profit, play-based preschool, and child development center, which incorporates ages 2 to 6 cognitive, and social-emotional domains and the whole child development as well the academic learning outcomes for kindergarten preparation. Teacher and child-led activities are provided to facilitate engagement in a variety of sensory learning, including visual, auditory, verbal, and emotional enrichment. We promote educational opportunities through our play-based curriculum in the areas of socio-emotional, cognitive development, fine motor skills, and gross motor skills. Additionally, we provide introductions to STEM opportunities such as mathematical concepts, health, and scientific discovery. Children enjoy many activities which engage them in learning through play in the fresh air under the redwood tree and inside the security of our ivy-covered fence.
